Toshiba & KIOXIA SSD Recovery

Toshiba and KIOXIA drives fail quietly. We know exactly how to listen.

Not detected, stuck at 0 GB, or locked in read-only mode — Toshiba legacy drives and KIOXIA-branded SSDs use proprietary controllers and BiCS Flash NAND that most labs simply cannot reach. This is a specialism of our in-house laboratory.

I.

The problem

What we see on the bench.

Toshiba and KIOXIA SSDs — including OCZ, BG and XG series — tend to fail suddenly, with little or no warning.

  • Drive not detected in BIOS, or reported as "no media"
  • 0 GB capacity or the drive fails to initialise
  • Firmware corruption or a locked-up controller
  • Read-only mode triggered by NAND wear
  • Accidental formatting or partition deletion
  • Dead or unresponsive OEM/embedded NVMe modules in ultrabooks and tablets

We work across SATA, M.2 NVMe and PCIe Gen4 drives, including DRAM-less designs where evidence of the fault is easy to misread with generic tools.

Important: stop using the drive immediately. Do not attempt firmware updates, resets or "repair" utilities — on a drive with a compromised controller, this is the single most common cause of data becoming permanently unrecoverable.

II.

Why this needs a specialist lab

Proprietary flash, proprietary problems.

i

BiCS Flash & custom controllers

Toshiba and KIOXIA pair proprietary NAND with controller and firmware-level encryption schemes that generic recovery software cannot interpret.

ii

OEM-only models

BG and XG series drives are frequently sold only to laptop manufacturers, undocumented for public recovery — DIY tools and consumer software have nothing to work with.

iii

Chip-off & controller bypass

Where a drive is dead or unresponsive, we read the NAND directly and rebuild the translation layer in the lab.

iv

OEM laptop drives

We regularly recover KIOXIA SSDs fitted under OEM part numbers inside Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer and ASUS laptops.

III.

Coverage

Models we see regularly.

Process

Diagnosis first, fixed quote confirmed before we touch a chip.

  1. 01

    Diagnosis

We identify the real fault — controller lockup, firmware corruption, NAND failure or logical damage — and report back honestly on what is recoverable.

  2. 02

    Fixed quote

A fixed price is confirmed based on the actual failure class before any recovery work begins. No surprises.

  3. 03

    Laboratory recovery

Firmware reconstruction, controller bypass or chip-off NAND reads as the case requires, always working onto verified images.

  4. 04

    Verified return

Your files are verified openable and returned on encrypted media, with one continuous chain of custody throughout.

Questions

The honest answers.

My Toshiba or KIOXIA SSD shows 0GB. Is it dead?

Not necessarily — 0GB capacity is usually a sign of controller or firmware failure rather than destroyed NAND. These are recoverable failure classes in our lab. A proper diagnosis will tell you exactly where you stand.

My laptop uses an OEM BG or XG series drive. Can you still recover it?

Yes. OEM-only drives fitted in laptops from Dell, HP, Lenovo and others are a regular part of our workload, even though they are undocumented for public recovery and unsupported by generic software.

Should I try firmware or recovery tools myself first?

No. Firmware updates, resets and generic recovery utilities are the most common cause of a recoverable fault becoming permanent on these drives. Stop using it and get it assessed.

Do you work on enterprise KIOXIA and Toshiba drives too?

Yes — CD5/CD6/CM6 NVMe, RM5/PM6 SAS and HK3R/PX enterprise series are all within scope, including drives pulled from RAID and server arrays.

How much does Toshiba or KIOXIA SSD recovery cost?

It depends on the failure class, which is why diagnosis comes first and the quote is fixed. Logical faults cost less than firmware or chip-level work; you always know the price before we start.
