RAID degradation or rebuild errors
Data loss after one or more drives fail in a RAID-5 or RAID-10 array, especially following a forced rebuild.
Disk failure or bad sectors
HDD or SSD degradation inside the UNAS or UNVR chassis.

EXT4, Btrfs or proprietary system damage following power loss or an improper shutdown.

We recover UniFi Protect footage even when the UNVR fails to boot or reports "Protect Controller unavailable", drives have been reformatted or re-initialised, recordings were partially overwritten, or drives are encrypted or locked within UniFi OS.
Fragmented video is identified and reconstructed using forensic-grade tools and our own in-house scripts, restoring playable clips in standard formats — MP4, MKV, or the proprietary Protect container. All handling follows digital forensics chain-of-custody standards, so recovered footage can stand up in an investigation or in court if required. This sits alongside our wider digital forensics & eDiscovery work.

A detailed diagnostic of each drive and the UNAS or UNVR controller identifies the failure type and the recovery method required.

Secure imaging & RAID reconstruction
Damaged drives are imaged sector-by-sector on forensic hardware, then the original storage structure is reconstructed in a controlled environment.

Extraction & validation
Recoverable data is extracted and validated — video files, backups and databases are sample-tested for consistency, not just copied back.

Output & delivery
Data is returned on encrypted media or transferred to storage you provide. CCTV cases include a full audit trail and evidence documentation.

Our UNAS RAID rebuild failed halfway through. Is the data gone?
Not necessarily. Interrupted or failed rebuilds are one of our most common cases — stop the device now, do not retry the rebuild, and send it in as-is. Every further attempt reduces what is recoverable.
Can you recover UniFi Protect footage if the UNVR will not boot?
Usually, yes. A boot failure is often a UniFi OS or controller problem, not drive damage — the underlying footage on the drives can typically still be recovered and reconstructed into playable clips.
Is recovered CCTV footage usable as evidence?
Yes. We follow documented chain-of-custody procedures throughout, so recovered footage and its audit trail can support an internal investigation or court proceedings.
