TerraMaster D-series enclosures are popular with editors, studios and IT teams for good reason — until a bay, a controller or the array itself gives out.
Hardware faults:
- A drive bay shows "Missing" or "Offline"
- The array suddenly fails to mount
- USB-C or Thunderbolt interface stops connecting
- One or more disks show bad sectors or SMART warnings
- Power surge, faulty PSU, or an overheating controller board
RAID and file system faults:
- A RAID 0/5 rebuild fails or stalls partway through
- JBOD data becomes inaccessible after an enclosure reset
- Accidental format or deletion of the volume
- File system corruption — NTFS, exFAT, HFS+ or APFS
- Disk order changed during troubleshooting — a common and costly DIY mistake
Important: if the array will not rebuild or mount, stop retrying in the enclosure’s own utility. Repeated rebuild attempts on a degraded RAID are the single most common cause of data becoming unrecoverable. Power the unit down and get it to us as it is.

Initial assessment
We examine the enclosure hardware, check each internal drive and determine the RAID array's true health.

Forensic imaging
Every drive is imaged using write-blocking equipment to preserve the original data. Where a disk is degraded, we clone from known-good areas first.

RAID reconstruction
We manually rebuild your RAID 0/1/5/10 array using disk order detection, stripe size analysis and parity checks. We never force a rebuild on live data.

Extraction & verification
Recovered files are checked for integrity and delivered on new media — in structured folders matching how they appeared before failure.

The honest answers.
My TerraMaster shows a drive bay as "Missing". Is the data gone?
Not necessarily. A missing bay is often a connector, backplane or single-disk fault rather than a lost array — the remaining disks and array metadata frequently allow a full rebuild. Diagnosis tells you exactly where you stand.
The RAID rebuild failed halfway through. What should I do?
Power the enclosure off and stop attempting further rebuilds. Repeated rebuild attempts on a degraded array are the most common cause of permanent data loss on DAS units. Send the enclosure and all its drives to us as they are.
Do you need the whole enclosure, or just the drives?
Usually just the drives, plus details of the RAID configuration if you have them. For controller or interface faults, sending the enclosure too helps us diagnose and, where useful, replicate the exact setup.
Can you handle Thunderbolt models like the D5 Thunderbolt 3 or D8 Thunderbolt?
Yes — we work with USB-C, USB and Thunderbolt TerraMaster units across the full D-series range, including the 8-bay professional systems.
How much does TerraMaster DAS recovery cost?
It depends on whether the fault is hardware, RAID or logical. You approve a fixed quote after diagnosis, before any recovery work begins — no surprises.
