SK hynix SSD Recovery
SK hynix builds its own controllers. So do we build recoveries around them.
Not detected, stuck read-only, or reporting 0 GB — SK hynix drives fail in ways generic tools cannot touch. We recover Gold, Platinum and OEM SK hynix SSDs at controller and NAND level, in-house.
The problem
Typical SK hynix SSD failures.
These are the faults we see most often on Gold, Platinum and OEM SK hynix drives.
- Not detected in BIOS — or the drive reports as "no media"
- 0 GB capacity or failure to mount in Windows or macOS
- Read-only / write-protected lockout after a firmware fault
- Power loss, voltage spikes or firmware corruption
- Accidental formatting or re-partitioning
- OEM variants in Dell, HP, Lenovo and other laptops that generic recovery tools do not support
Important: stop using the drive immediately. Do not attempt firmware updates or "repair" tools — on a locked or corrupted SK hynix controller, this is the fastest way to make data unrecoverable.
Why this brand is different
SK hynix makes its own controllers and NAND.
Most SSD brands buy in controllers from third parties. SK hynix designs and manufactures both the controller and the NAND in-house, and pairs them tightly with custom firmware — including OEM encryption on drives built for Dell, HP and Lenovo. Standard recovery software has no way in.
Our lab approach for SK hynix drives includes:
- Controller-level access and firmware bypass
- Direct NAND extraction — chip-off or via diagnostic port — when the controller cannot be revived
- Logical reconstruction of corrupted partitions and file systems
- Handling for OEM drives with hidden partitions or locked firmware

Process
Diagnosis first, fixed quote confirmed before we start.
- 01
Diagnosis
Send the drive, or the whole device if the SSD cannot be removed. We identify the real fault — controller, firmware, NAND or logical — within 24 hours of receipt.
- 02
Fixed quote
A fixed price is confirmed based on the actual failure before any recovery work begins. No surprises later.
- 03
Laboratory recovery
Firmware bypass, direct NAND extraction or logical reconstruction, carried out under one chain of custody, in-house — nothing is outsourced.
- 04
Verified return
Recovered files verified openable and returned to you on encrypted media.
Questions
The honest answers.
My SK hynix SSD shows 0GB or "no media" — is it recoverable?
Often, yes. This usually points to a controller or firmware fault rather than dead NAND, and both are recoverable failure classes in our lab. Diagnosis will confirm exactly where you stand before you commit to anything.
Why is SK hynix SSD recovery different from other brands?
SK hynix manufactures both the controller and NAND itself, and pairs them with custom, often OEM-specific firmware. Generic recovery software cannot read the drive correctly, so recovery has to work at controller and firmware level using purpose-built procedures.
My laptop has an OEM SK hynix SSD from Dell/HP/Lenovo — can you still help?
Yes. OEM drives are one of our specialisms — including cases with hidden partitions or locked firmware. Send the whole laptop if the SSD is soldered or otherwise cannot be removed safely.
The drive is stuck read-only or write-protected. What should I do?
Stop using it immediately and do not attempt a firmware update or repair tool — this can push a locked controller past the point of recovery. Power it down and arrange an assessment.
How quickly can you tell me if recovery is possible?
Diagnostic clarity is typically provided within 24 hours of us receiving the drive, with a fixed quote to follow if recovery is viable.
Part of our wider SSD data recovery service. Tell us what happened and an engineer will respond with an honest recoverability view, fixed pricing and next steps.
