Seagate SSD Recovery
Seagate SSD gone quiet? We speak controller.
BarraCuda, FireCuda and Nytro SSDs recovered in our own laboratory — not detected, showing 0GB, RAW, or dead after a firmware or DIY attempt. Every case starts with an honest diagnosis before any recovery work.
The problem
You may need us if your Seagate SSD is doing any of this.
Seagate SSDs use Phison, SandForce and in-house controllers — each with its own quirks, and none of them forgiving of guesswork.
- Not recognised or missing from BIOS — the drive simply does not appear
- Reports as 0 GB, RAW, or asks to be reformatted — a controller or firmware fault, not necessarily dead NAND
- Completely dead or failing intermittently — powers up sometimes, disappears others
- Data missing after a firmware or OS update — mapping tables or firmware corrupted mid-write
- NAND-level damage or controller failure — physical wear or component failure on the drive itself
Important: if a DIY tool has already been run on the drive, stop now. Repeated attempts with consumer recovery software are the most common cause of a case going from recoverable to unrecoverable.
Why it needs a lab
Enterprise Seagate SSDs are built to resist exactly this.
Enterprise models such as the Nytro XF1440 and Nytro 3032 carry advanced ECC and encryption layers specifically designed to block generic recovery software. Standard IT support tools do not reach far enough — this is hardware-level work.
In our lab, that means:
- NAND chip-off recovery, where the failure requires it
- Firmware emulation and reconstruction for controller and translator faults
- Hardware-based imaging for drives with a failing controller
- Secure decryption of enterprise drives, where permitted and required
This is one specialism within our wider SSD data recovery service, which covers every SSD brand, form factor and failure type.

Process
Straightforward, honest, fixed-price.
- 01
Diagnosis
We examine the drive and identify the actual fault — controller, firmware, NAND or logical — and report back with a clear, honest verdict.
- 02
Fixed quote
You approve a fixed price based on the real fault before any recovery work begins. No open-ended bills.
- 03
Laboratory recovery
Firmware reconstruction, chip-off reads or logical rebuild as the case requires — always carried out on verified images.
- 04
Verified return
Files are verified openable and returned on encrypted media, in-house from start to finish with one chain of custody.
Questions
The honest answers.
My Seagate SSD shows 0GB or asks me to reformat it. Is it dead?
Not necessarily. Reporting 0GB or RAW is usually a controller or firmware symptom rather than proof the NAND itself has failed — both are common, recoverable fault classes in the lab. Diagnosis tells you definitively where you stand.
I already tried a DIY recovery tool and it made things worse. Can you still help?
Often, yes, but stop using the drive immediately. Repeated write attempts from consumer software are the single biggest cause of cases becoming unrecoverable. Send it to us as-is and we will give you a truthful assessment.
Do you handle enterprise Nytro drives with encryption?
Yes. Enterprise Nytro SSDs carry ECC and encryption layers specifically designed to block standard tools, so this is hardware-level work — chip-off, firmware reconstruction and secure decryption where permitted.
Is this confidential? We handle client and regulated data.
Yes. We regularly work with legal, government, academic and corporate clients recovering mission-critical files, all handled under strict confidentiality with a single documented chain of custody in our own laboratory — no outsourcing.
How much will it cost?
It depends on the failure class, which is why diagnosis comes first and the quote is fixed. See our price guide for typical ranges, or request an assessment for a case-specific figure.
