Apple ships the Mac Studio and Mac mini with surprisingly little storage for what creative professionals ask of them. We upgrade both to up to 8TB — mail-in, fully insured, with data migration, DFU restore and 24-hour burn-in testing before it comes back to you.

Most Mac Studio and Mac mini units shipped with 500GB or 1TB — fine at first, tight within a year.
Video editors, photographers, music producers and designers all hit the same wall: raw footage, project files and design assets grow faster than expected, and suddenly you are shuffling files to external drives or archiving projects you still need.

What actually happens to your machine.

Insured mail-in
You send the Mac Studio or Mac mini to our Belfast lab via insured courier. No appointment, no store queue.
- 02
Careful teardown
The case is opened with precision tools, and the power supply and internal components are disconnected and catalogued — every screw and connector logged for exact reassembly.
- 03
Module swap
Apple's proprietary SSD modules are not standard M.2 drives. We remove the original module and fit the new one using Apple-specific handling, then run the DFU restore this pairing always requires.
- 04
Migration, clean & burn-in
Your data is migrated across, the internals are cleaned of built-up dust with ESD-safe tools, and the system runs a 24-hour burn-in test before it is signed off and returned.
Why Data Forensics
This is lab work, not a bench repair.
Apple's storage modules are proprietary and firmware-paired to the logic board — get the handling or the DFU restore wrong and you risk a machine that will not boot. We approach every upgrade with the same discipline we use for data recovery and digital forensics cases: one in-house team, full traceability of every component removed, and nothing subcontracted out.

The honest answers.
Will I lose my data during the upgrade?
No — full data migration from your original storage to the new module is part of the service. We treat every machine as if it holds irreplaceable data, because for most clients it does.
Why does a DFU restore matter for this?
Apple's SSD modules are firmware-paired to the logic board, not plug-and-play like a standard M.2 drive. Fitting new storage always requires a DFU restore to re-pair the system correctly — skipping or mishandling this step is how DIY upgrades end in a machine that will not boot.
What capacities can I upgrade to?
Up to 8TB, with 2TB and 4TB also available — the options depend on your specific Mac Studio or Mac mini model. Tell us your current machine and we will confirm what fits.
Do I need to bring it in, or visit an Apple Store?
Neither. This is a mail-in service — you send the machine to our Belfast lab via insured courier and we return it the same way once the 24-hour burn-in test is complete.
What if my SSD has actually failed rather than just filled up?
That is a different problem — data recovery, not an upgrade. Let us know when you get in touch and we will route you to our Apple SSD data recovery service instead.
