RAID Data Recovery

A degraded array is a countdown, not a crisis.

Every RAID level, every controller, every failure mode — reconstructed in our own laboratory. The single most damaging thing you can do now is force a rebuild. Stop, and talk to an engineer first.

Before you touch it

What not to do — this is the important bit.

  • Do not rebuild onto a degraded array. If a second drive is marginal, a rebuild can finish the job of destroying your data.
  • Do not re-initialise or create a new array. This overwrites the RAID metadata we reconstruct from.
  • Do not reorder or relabel drives without recording the original order first.
  • Do photograph the drive bay order, power down, and note the controller model and what has happened.

    Image every member

    Each drive is individually cloned; failed members are recovered physically in the lab first.

    Virtual rebuild

    Stripe size, order, parity and rotation are determined from the images and the array rebuilt virtually — never on your disks.

  4. 04

    Verify & return

    File systems, databases and VMs verified before your data is returned on encrypted media.

Priced by array size and drive count — the same structure for RAID, servers, NAS and DAS. Fixed quote confirmed after diagnosis; prices exclude VAT.

All prices below are net (before VAT). We add VAT at 20% on top — shown beneath each price as “inc VAT”, which is the total you actually pay. For example, a £425 net recovery is £510 including VAT. VAT-registered businesses can usually reclaim it.

Questions

RAID, answered plainly.

Two drives failed in a RAID 5. Is the data lost?

Usually not. We recover each failed member individually in the lab, then reconstruct the array from the images. Multi-drive RAID 5 failures are routine work here — provided no rebuild has been forced over them.

The rebuild failed halfway. Can you still recover?

Often yes, but stop immediately — every further attempt overwrites more data. Send the drives as they are and we will assess what remains.

Do you need the controller or server too?

Usually just the drives, kept in order. For unusual or proprietary controllers we may ask for the unit — we will tell you at consultation.

How quickly can you turn it around?

Critical business arrays can be prioritised via the 24/7 line; you receive a timeline with your fixed quote after evaluation.
