Not every DAS device is the same
Rugged, boutique or custom — one lab handles it all.
Direct-attached storage covers everything from a single rugged SSD to a multi-bay RAID tower someone built themselves. Generic recovery software is built for neither.
This service is part of our wider DAS data recovery practice, covering the brands and builds that fall outside a single dedicated product line — used daily by film and media professionals, IT teams, audio producers and engineers running custom storage.
Failures we see most
- Hardware: broken USB-C / Thunderbolt ports, an enclosure that powers on but the drive never appears, a bridge chip firmware fault, or controller damage from a power surge
- Logical: accidental format or partition deletion, a "disk not recognised" message, or file system corruption across exFAT, HFS+, NTFS, APFS and EXT4
- Multi-disk: a degraded RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10, a JBOD with mismatched disk sizes, disks swapped or reconfigured without proper syncing, or encrypted volumes that won't unlock
If a multi-disk array is involved: do not force a rebuild and do not re-initialise. Power the unit down, note the disk order, and talk to an engineer first — it is the single biggest factor in whether an array stays recoverable.

Every drive is cloned at sector level on hardware-grade imaging controllers before any reconstruction work starts.

RAID / JBOD reconstruction
Disk arrangements are reassembled from the images, even if order or settings were changed after the failure.

Recovered files are checked openable, structured for handover, and returned on a new secure device or encrypted media.

Priced by array size and drive count — the same matrix used for RAID, servers and NAS. Fixed quote confirmed after diagnosis; prices exclude VAT.
All prices below are net (before VAT). We add VAT at 20% on top — shown beneath each price as “inc VAT”, which is the total you actually pay. For example, a £425 net recovery is £510 including VAT. VAT-registered businesses can usually reclaim it.

What owners of these devices ask us.
My LaCie / OWC / CalDigit drive isn't showing up on Mac or Windows. Is it gone?
Not necessarily. "Disk not recognised" is most often a bridge chip, firmware or controller fault rather than lost data on the platters or NAND — both are recoverable failure classes. Stop connecting it repeatedly and let us diagnose it properly.
My enclosure runs a RAID or JBOD and a disk has dropped out. What now?
Power it down and leave the disk order as it is — do not force a rebuild or swap drives. Degraded arrays are our standard workload; the failed member is recovered individually and the array reconstructed from verified images.
I have a brand or model you haven't listed. Can you still help?
