Since 2018, Apple desktops route storage through the logic board itself — soldered SSDs, Secure Enclave encryption, or full SoC integration on Apple Silicon. Pulling the drive and connecting it to another machine is often not an option. That is exactly the environment our lab is built for.

III.

Security layers

T2, M1/M2 and FileVault, handled correctly.

Most Mac desktops from 2018 onwards encrypt storage at the board level — secure by design, but unforgiving without the right procedure.

  • T2 chip — controls SSD access via the Secure Enclave
  • M1 / M2 chips — integrate storage directly into the SoC
  • FileVault — adds a further user-level full-disk encryption layer
  • APFS snapshots — can corrupt or lock volumes after a failed update

We extract and reconstruct encrypted volumes with the correct login credentials or recovery key. Where the logic board itself has failed, we may need to repair or emulate it to reach storage safely — work we carry out entirely in our own lab, with one continuous chain of custody.

    Forensic access to the internal SSD, followed by decryption and APFS volume repair using your credentials or recovery key.

    Recovered data verified and returned on encrypted media, with a written timeline agreed at intake.

Typical timelines: 3–5 days for Intel machines with removable SSDs, 5–10 days for T2 systems needing board access, and 7–21 days for Apple Silicon units with a dead logic board. The honest answers.

My Mac Studio or Mac Mini won't power on at all. Is the data lost?

Not necessarily. A dead power stage or logic board fault often leaves the SSD itself intact — the challenge is reaching it. Our diagnosis tells you exactly what has failed and whether recovery is realistic before you commit to anything.

The SSD is soldered to the logic board. Can it still be recovered?

Yes — this is a specialism of our lab. Depending on the platform we work through the device's own controller or at chip level. Send the whole machine rather than trying to remove the drive yourself.

My Mac uses FileVault or T2 encryption. Do I need my password?

Ideally yes — your login credentials or recovery key let us extract and reconstruct the encrypted volume correctly. Without them, recovery may still be possible in some cases, but we will tell you honestly where you stand after diagnosis.

How much does Mac desktop recovery cost?

It depends on the model, the encryption in play, and whether logic board repair is needed. Diagnostics are chargeable given the specialist tooling involved, but you receive a fixed quote confirmed before any recovery work begins.

How long does it take?

Intel Macs with removable SSDs typically take 3–5 business days. T2 systems needing board access run 5–10 days. Apple Silicon Macs with a dead logic board can take 7–21 days. Urgent business cases can be expedited for a surcharge.
